European man bound for Guiness Book while riding a scooter.
Ever imagined going over 100 Km/h while riding a mobility scooter? Well keep an eye out for speeding grandparents on the road, because imagination just became reality.
Colin Furze, a plumber from Stamford, Lincolnshire, thought that traditional mobility scooters moved too slow and thought it would be fun to make them go faster. Furze converted the electric motor in the scooter, into a 125cc petrol motor, allowing him to reach speeds of near 70 Mph.
Furze was contacted by The Guiness Book of World Records, wanting to investigate his accomplishment, for the chance of having himself be placed into the book’s pages.
I was told by Guinness that I could modify the engine but I wasn’t allowed to change the appearance in any way so I couldn’t give it bigger wheels or make it more stable. I initially tried experimenting with battery power but I only got to about 30mph and the batteries died really quickly so I knew then it would have to be petrol powered. I haven’t had any crashes but the wheel fell off when I was slowing down once. I’ve nearly been in the hedge a few times.’
To all of you wanting to try this, safety is key, but I don’t see the point for conventional use. It’s recorded to get 10 miles to the gallon.
